Explore the past, present, and future of the Brooklyn Navy Yard on this guided walking tour of this historic and dynamic waterfront site. Founded in 1801, the Yard was once the nation's premier naval shipyard, building, repairing, and outfitting vessels from the War of 1812 through the Cold War. Today, the Yard's historic industrial landscape has been repurposed to support 450+ businesses that employ over 11,000 people in manufacturing, technology, and skilled crafts. On this two-hour walking tour, we will explore the Yard's rich naval and labor history, through examining historical documents, listening to oral histories from workers and sailors, and visiting historic buildings, including Civil War-era machine shops, the Yard's museum and visitor center at BLDG 92, and a working dry dock still used today for ship repair. We will also learn about the Yard's business ecosystem, community programs, and workforce development today, and the future plans for the Yard's development.
This tour begins inside Building 77, located at 141 Flushing Avenue, at the intersection with Vanderbilt Ave. Your guide will meet you by Russ & Daughters. You should not enter any other gate of the Navy Yard, as you will not be allowed to enter the secure industrial park.
The Brooklyn Navy Yard is 300 acres with eight different entrances, so please arrive at the correct entrance. Do not use "63 FLUSHING AVE" or just "BROOKLYN NAVY YARD" to navigate to the tour starting location – YOU WILL GET LOST. If you need a street address, use 141 FLUSHING AVE. The Brooklyn Navy Yard is a secure industrial park. Do not attempt to enter the Yard through any entrances other than Building 77, as you will be turned away.

During this tour we will walk approximately 2 miles, and there will be limited options to sit during the tour. We try to utilize the most accessible pathways, but there may be some uneven paths, steps, or steep inclines. Tours begin on time. Tour participants should please arrive 10 minutes before the tour start so that we can begin on time. If you are running late or have trouble finding your guide, please call us at (347) 903-8687. If you arrive more than 10 minutes late to the tour, there is no guarantee that you will be able to catch up to the group or participate in the tour. There are no partial or full refunds for late arrivals.
Please dress appropriately for the weather, wear comfortable shoes, and bring water, as access to restrooms and shelter may be limited during the tour.

RESTROOMS are located inside Building 77, which has restrooms that you can use before and after your tour, as well as at BLDG 92. Once the tour begins, there may be limited access to restrooms for the duration of the tour. Please arrive early to use the restroom before the tour, as there is limited availability of restrooms throughout the tour. Please plan accordingly, and we will do our best to accommodate you.

VISIT BLDG 92: The Brooklyn Navy Yard Visitor and Exhibition Center is open Thursday–Sunday, 12pm–5pm, and admission is free. Explore three floors of exhibits about the Yard's past, present, and future before or after your tour. The museum is located at the corner of Flushing Ave and Carlton Ave, two blocks west of Building 77.

GUIDE TO THE YARD: Explore the Yard's environs with our handy guide to the public areas of the Yard, and the historic sites surrounding it. Visit the Naval Cemetery Landscape, explore Fort Greene Park, and check out the exhibits on display in the Yard's public buildings and around the perimeter.
FOOD & DRINK: Visit the vendors in the Food Manufacturing Hub at Building 77, including Russ & Daughters, open 7 days a week. Wegmans offers prepared foods, and there are many nearby eateries on Myrtle Avenue and in DUMBO. For drinks, grab a cocktail at the Kings County Distillery tasting room, have a beer at Transmitter Brewing in Building 77, or visit Rooftop Reds for a glass of wine (reservations required).
Please note that Russ & Daughters is open daily 8am–3:30pm, so if you're joining a 2pm–4pm tour, you may want to stop by before the tour.
RIDE THE FERRY: Take the NYC Ferry to and from the Yard! The Yard is served by the Astoria Route ferry, with direct service to Wall St and East 34th St in Manhattan, and the landing is a short walk from the tour meeting location. Be sure to check the ferry schedule when making your plans, as it is subject to change. Ferries usually arrive and depart within 30 minutes of the tour start and end times.
